Another website in development is a real time tidal tracking system where users can see real time weather information for the Narrow River in South Kingstown, RI. The first step to the project is to connect an IP camera focused downstream. Somewhere in the field of view would be a static tide gauge with gradations that would help estimate the water height. In parallel, an ocean instrument is in development that would measure the height of the water using a sensitive pressure transducer. The ocean instrument will be powered via solar panel so that the system can be applied to more remote regions. Using an XML updated website, users will be able to see accurate graphical data that depicts the tide position and sea level trends. The goal of the project is to pioneer affordable ocean instrumentation and monitor sea level rise. An alternative motive to developing the technology is providing information for recreational activities like kayaking and boating.
